Privacy policy

What the game collects

You do not need an account or an email address to play. We store clues, guesses, scores, optional player names, game dates, timestamps, and game state. Shared games also contain browser identifiers so each player can return to their own turn. Please avoid putting sensitive or personal information in clues or player names.

We use this information to run and score games, keep your Daily number stable, reconnect players, show recent games, prevent conflicting turns, and troubleshoot errors.

Browser recognition and local storage

Waggle's game code recognizes your browser with a randomly generated cookie called waggle_device. We store a hash of this identifier with shared games. It is not generated from your hardware, installed fonts, canvas, or other device characteristics. The game code does not use hardware fingerprinting.

The cookie lasts up to one year unless you clear it sooner. Browser local storage remembers your chosen name, sound setting, whether you have seen the instructions, played turns, pack streaks, and games you have hidden. These values stay until you or your browser clear them.

You can clear cookies and site data using your browser settings. This may remove access to your player seat and local history. Hiding a game only hides it in that browser; it does not delete the shared game from our servers.

Shared links are shareable

People who receive a game or scorecard link can see the information that link exposes, including clues, player names, and completed results. Some older links contain signed game information directly in the address. Link previews can be fetched and cached by messaging services. Share links only with people you intend to play with; avoid treating a link as a private message.

Hosting and technical information

Cloudflare hosts Waggle, stores shared game records, and delivers live updates. Requests necessarily include technical information such as an IP address, requested URL, and browser information. Cloudflare may process request and security logs to deliver and protect the service. Information may be processed outside your country.

Advertising

Advertising spaces appear while waiting for a friend and after results. When no third-party ad is configured or available, we show a Waggle house ad. With no third-party ad configured, no advertising provider is loaded. If a third-party ad request fails, a house ad may appear after the provider has already been contacted.

If Google AdSense ads are enabled, Google and its partners may collect or receive IP addresses, browser and device information, page information, and ad interactions. They may use cookies, web beacons, local storage, or other identifiers to deliver and measure ads, prevent fraud, and, where permitted by your choices and applicable requirements, personalize ads based on activity on this and other sites. Third-party ad technology is separate from Waggle's browser-recognition cookie.

See how Google uses information from partner sites and Google's advertising information. You can manage Google's personalized-ad settings at My Ad Center and use your browser's cookie controls. These settings do not necessarily stop all ads or all data processing.

Retention and your choices

Shared games and scorecards currently have no automatic expiration. They remain stored so players can reopen games and results. Clearing browser data does not delete server records or copies of links and previews held by other people or services.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, or deletion, object to certain processing, or complain to your local privacy authority. Browser controls let you clear local site data, but they do not remove server records.
